Windows virtualization is a powerful set of technologies that can significantly increase server utilization and ease management. There are, however, some interesting challenges in protecting virtual environments. To meet customer needs in protecting virtual servers, Microsoft is releasing Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 in the second half of 2007. Currently in beta 2, System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 combines the best aspects of continuous data protection (CDP) and traditional tape backup to provide a complete data protection solution using disk and tape. System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 is designed to protect Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Windows SharePoint Services, and most Windows Server and Windows desktop environments. Join this webcast as we discuss what has changed with Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1). One such enhancement is the Virtual Server Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) writer, which enables System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 to protect virtualized environments. We explore how System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 works and explain what to consider when protecting virtual machines with System Center Data Protection Manager 2007.
