Event Overview
|
Microsoft Visual Studio provides a great set of built-in development tools, and an open and extensible platform. Two key components of this platform are Domain-Specific Language (DSL) Tools and the text templating
framework. In this webcast, we show how these technologies can be combined to produce custom tools to support domain-specific software development, where DSLs are used to create models that provide exactly the correct inputs to drive code generators built
using text templates. We also explain how DSL Tools use domain-specific development itself for creating graphical designers.
Presenters: Gareth Jones, Senior Development Lead, Microsoft Corporation
Gareth Jones is a senior development lead in the Microsoft Visual Studio eXtensibility Ecosystem group at Microsoft. Since 2003 he has been working on Domain-Specific Language (DSL) Tools and software factories and now he is broadening those techniques to help
make extending Visual Studio with any of your own tools a much easier, more accessible proposition. He co-authored Domain-Specific Development with Visual Studio DSL Tools (Addison-Wesley Professional, 2007) with other members of the DSL Tools team. Previously
at Microsoft he worked as a development manager for bespoke enterprise solutions, led the development of Microsoft bCentral UK business portal, and managed a consultancy team focused on independent software vendors (ISVs). Before joining Microsoft, Gareth
led developments in the intelligence analysis, simulation, and aerospace industries.
