Event Overview

With the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Shell, Visual Studio becomes a tool for almost any platform. Whether you are looking to build an "express" edition for your programming language product or you want to build an integrated development environment (IDE) for specialized control systems, the royalty-free Visual Studio Shell can help you cut costs and focus on your areas of expertise. In this session, we demonstrate how to use the Visual Studio Shell to build custom tools for a broad range of applications.

Presenter: James Lau, Lead Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation

James Lau is the lead program manager in the Visual Studio Ecosystem team at Microsoft. His team builds the Visual Studio software development kit (SDK), and helps Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP) customers and Visual Studio extenders in the community build great extensions for the Microsoft Visual Studio development system. Before joining the Ecosystem team, James was part of the Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE) team where he designed and worked on a number of IDE features. James holds a bachelor's of applied sciences in computer engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada, and a master's in engineering management from Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.
