International maritime cargo is a $6.5 trillion business and vulnerable to terrorism and other security threats. This presentation will discuss what government and industry is doing to address this problem, examining the technologies
required and interoperability challenges that must be addressed. Specifically, we will discuss how Microsoft BizTalk® played a key role in a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Pilot to facilitate the interoperation of shippers, carriers, ports, governments,
and freight consolidators.

Jeffrey Irland is a practice director at Unisys, responsible for secure supply chain solutions. His emphasis is on defining, developing and delivering solutions that increase security and visibility using wireless and sensor
technologies. His most recent focus has been on the use of wireless technologies for cargo security and public safety. Jeff is an electrical engineer with over 20 years experience in R&D, business development, complex systems development, and large program
management in the field of telecommunications and supply chain management. Jeff holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University and a MS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.
