It discusses the purpose of tempdb and provides an overview of the design of tempdb including details of the objects in the tempdb database. This session also explains tempdb usage in SQL Server 2005 including new features that explicitly influence space usage and system performance, and provides guidance for monitoring and troubleshooting tempdb.

Sunil Agarwal is a program manager in the SQL Server Storage Engine Group at Microsoft. He is responsible for concurrency, supportability, bulk load and operating system-level services such as scheduler in Microsoft SQL Server. Prior to joining Microsoft three years ago, Sunil worked at DEC, Sybase, BMC Software and DigitalThink, focusing primarily on core database engine technologies and related applications.
