Event Overview

With the upcoming new version of the Microsoft Visual Studio development system, device developers can make use of the many new features to develop applications for Windows Mobile powered devices. In this webcast , Jim Wilson and Maarten Struys provide a guided tour around everything new in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 for Windows Mobile application developers. The focus of this sample-filled webcast is on developing managed applications using the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework version 3.5. In this session, we present a high-level overview of Visual Studio 2008. Learn about new features, like Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), unit testing, Microsoft .NET Language-Integrated Query (LINQ), and the new Device Emulator. In other webcasts on Visual Studio 2008, we provide detailed information and many samples to show how you can apply these features in your own applications. Presenters: Maarten Struys, Windows Embedded Product Manager, PTS Software, and Jim Wilson, President, JW Hedgehog, Inc.

Maarten Struys is responsible for the Real-Time and Embedded Competence Centre at PTS Software. Maarten has worked with managed code in Microsoft .NET environments since 2000. He has experience with Microsoft Windows CE and has worked with Windows Mobile development since its introduction. He is also a freelance journalist who writes for the two leading magazines about embedded systems development in the Netherlands. Maarten's Web site, www.dotnetfordevices.com, is loaded with information about using .NET in the embedded world.

Jim Wilson is president of JW Hedgehog, Inc., a New Hampshire-based consulting firm specializing in solutions, content creation, and mentoring for Windows Mobile software. Jim has worked extensively with the Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft .NET Compact Framework (CF) since the original beta release of each. He has more than 14 years of experience with relational database programming, including Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition. Jim writes frequently for MSDN, and he has developed mobility curriculums for two of the industry's leading technology training organizations, DevelopMentor and PluralSight.
