Event Overview

Missing in the IIS Manager at the website, virtual directory, and even file level, granuluar compression is often a mis-understood and un-used feature in IIS 6.0.  This webcast will focus on comparing and contrasting compression as it exists in IIS 5.0 versus 6.0. The compression extension list, to be discussed in detail, is small by default on IIS 6.0 and configuration changes are often needed to extend the compression method to common web extensions such as .xml, .js, .cfm, etc.  Since the IIS Manager lacks the configuration areas, this webcast will explore the command-line tools available and also other ways to extend the extension list and also enable at various levels of the web server in IIS 6.0.  Where appropriate, we will also make reference to the overall administration and maintenance costs that can be drastically lowered with the use of compression.
